Kunsthall Stavanger is pleased to announce our participation at Untitled Art Fair in San Francisco, January 12-14, 2018. Kunsthall Stavanger will present new works by Norwegian artist Lina Viste Grønli (b. 1976 in Stavanger, Norway). Viste Grønli was the first artist exhibited at Kunsthall Stavanger when the institution reopened in 2013.
Lina Viste Grønli works in a wide range of media, from large public sculptures to smaller installation pieces. Sometimes her work takes on the form of objects being invaded by other objects, sometimes they are concrete letters, but always they circle the impossibility of giving language a crystallized, physical expression.
In her latest body of work, Time Pieces, everyday objects and discarded items are transformed into timekeeping devices. By adding functioning clock hands and motor to a towel, a shoe, a sweater, she raises awareness of the transitory nature of objects and the way in which they give meaning to concepts of time.
Lina Viste Grønli has exhibited at MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge; Sculpture Center, New York; Kunsthalle Wien; Marres Centre for Contemporary Culture, Maastricht; Wiels Contemporary Art Centre, Brussels; Performa 09, New York; Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, Bærum; and Gaudel de Stampa, Paris. Lina Viste Grønli lives and works in Somerville, USA.
In addition to art works by Viste Grønli, Kunsthall Stavanger ́s limited editions and catalogs will be available for sale. The editions are made by Judith Bernstein, Margrethe Aanestad, Frode Felipe Schjelderup, and Lina Viste Grønli.
The project has received the generous support from Office for Contemporary Art (OCA).
