About

Kunsthall Stavanger is pleased to announce the launch of the Kunsthall Stavanger Artist Residency. The Residency is an extension of the Kunsthall’s stated mission to serve as a platform for the production, exhibition, and distribution of artworks that are part of a large international discourse.

The residency's accommodation is situated on the beautiful Gandsfjord outside Stavanger, and provides each resident with the possibility to work peacefully in serene surroundings. Each residency will result in a project at Kunsthall Stavanger such as an exhibition, presentation, performance, or other event.

By facilitating extended stays for invited artists in Stavanger, the Residency provides opportunities for natural relationships to develop between visiting artists and local cultural practitioners. The Residency enables Kunsthall Stavanger to further enhance our collaborations with artists, and supports our on-site exhibitions and events.

The residency launches in August, 2018. The first resident is Hanne Lippard, followed by Violet Dennison in November.

Hanne Lippard

Hanne Lippard’s practice explores the voice as a medium. Her education in graphic design informs how language can be visually powerful; her texts are visual, rhythmic, and performative rather than purely informative, and her work is conveyed through a variety of disciplines, which include short films, sound pieces, installations and performance.

Lippard’s (*1984, Norway) exhibition Ulyd will open at Kunsthall Stavanger on August 30. Her most recent exhibitions include Ulyd, FriArt, Fribourg, Switzerland; Voici Des Fleurs, La Loge, Brussels; Blind Faith, Haus Der Kunst, Munich; Numb Limb, David Dale Gallery, Glasgow; Norsk Skulpturbiennale, Oslo; Pocket, SALTS, Basel; and Flesh, KW, Berlin.

Violet Dennison

Violet Dennison investigates paranoia, power, and self expression, while exploring our relationship to the ecologically and technologically unstable world. Vast systems become fragile or hacked, and small parts of the whole such as code, DNA and bacteria become principal actors, questioning the role of infrastructure and its ability to shape human behavior and language.

Dennison (*1989, USA) will open an exhibition at Kunsthall Stavanger on November 1. Her most recent exhibitions include Triennial: Songs for Sabotage, New Museum, New York; Abracadabra, Main Project of the 6th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art, Moscow; and Schau 5, Kunsthaus Kollitsch, Klagenfurt.
