Kunsthall Stavanger is proud to present Ode to a Dishrag, Hymn to a Tiger, a traveling group exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of the organization Norwegian Textile Artists(NTK). Ode to a Dishrag, Hymn to a Tiger takes its title from the eponymous work by Gunvor Nervold Antonsen. Until 2007, the tiger was the official logo of NTK and served as an emblem of strength and joint identity for the textile artists.
This extensive survey exhibition includes artwork by both emerging and well-established artists, and is a testament to the versatility of the medium and its ability to address issues ranging from major social, political, and environmental concerns to more intimate, quotidian life experiences. Using textile as a means of self- expression, the included artists have shown the material to be a strong and versatile component in art and societal discourse that stands the test of time, while laying the groundwork
