Delali Ayivor: been thinking lately of Fela

During Mobilizing Citizenship, a group of young people works closely with international artists and explores relevant ways to activate strategies from contemporary art in their everyday lives. The theme of this semester was DRAMA.
Delali Ayivor's workshop provided participants with the opportunity to gain some new techniques for generating literary work, using everyday materials. The participants expanded their idea of artmaking, with the aim to appreciate much of their everyday lives — especially their intuition — as an integral part of the creative process.
Over the course of two days, the group was guided through the process of creating erasure poetry, both individually and in small groups.

Delali Ayivor
Delali Ayivor is a Ghanaian-American writer crafting poetry for Black women and those who hope to love them. She is a 2011 U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts and member of the second class of Kehinde Wiley’s Black Rock Senegal residency. A 2020 Tin House Summer Workshop Scholar, Delali has been artist-in-residence in 2018 at Atlantic Center for the Arts with Tracie Morris and at the STONELEAF Retreat in Kingston, NY. Her work has been published most recently online by The Rumpus and CovenBerlin. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
Mobilizing Citizenship (MC)
Mobilizing Citizenship (MC) is an educational project where Norwegian and international artists and designers are invited to work with a small group of young people aged 12-16 at Kunsthall Stavanger during one semester. The overall focus of MC is to investigate how young people can use tools and methods from contemporary art to express themselves and be heard in today's society. MC is not a talent development programme, but rather an investigation into how contemporary art can be a relevant contribution in young people’s lives.
Since its inception in 2018, MC has developed into a practice-based research project. During the period 2022–2024, the project will focus on building more knowledge about how we can create good meetings between contemporary art and young people. As part of this, we are collaborating with institutions and cultural workers from around the world who have expertise in this area. The result of the project will take the form of reflections and documentations, made accessible to artists, curators, cultural workers and institutions who want to create relevant offerings for young people.
