Song Circus and Tarozzi & Walker present The Atmospheric Agent, a completely new work composed by Catherine Lamb, in combination with music by Pauline Oliveros .

Lamb and Oliveros are two of the most influential female composers of our time. A central perspective in both Lamb's and Oliveros' work is the relationship between time and one’s state of being. The works can be described as auditory landscapes – music with sensory and psychoacoustic qualities. Psychoacoustics refers to the relationship between sound and surroundings, how sound behaves and changes shape when encountering different architectural and acoustic conditions, and above all, how sound affects humans experiencing it.

Lamb is one of the most sought-after composers of her generation. She explores the mathematics of harmony through the physicality of the material world. Through musical constructions, she connects the sonic with the tactile and visual. She explores the interplay between tones, summation of forms and shadows, phenomenological expansions, and spatial architecture.

Composer and academic Pauline Oliveros is known for her theories on sound, silence, and "deep listening." Oliveros' instructional and poetic texts reflect on listening as a meditative practice. Deep Listening is the act of listening to all aspects of the world, not just sounds as we define them. She encourages us to listen to our inner selves and to everything that surrounds us. For Oliveros, silence is one of the most important sounds.

The new composition is performed by Song Circus, one of Europe's leading contemporary vocal ensembles. For this project they are joined by two of Europe's foremost string players in the field of contemporary music; Silvia Tarozzi and Deborah Walker.

The Atmospheric Agent is presented in collaboration with Ny Musikk Stavanger.
