Kunsthall Stavanger is proud to announce an exhibition of new works by the Stavanger-based artist Anette Gellein.
Working at the nexus of visual art and film, Gellein’s practice revolves around themes of power, politics, sexuality, gender, and emotion. Drawing inspiration from camp and horror, German Expressionism, literature, avant-garde cinema, and queer politics, they create visual poems that reveal hidden emotional landscapes.
Gellein strives to continually push the boundaries of what queer feminist film can be, how it can be created and presented. They regularly collaborate with artists across disciplines such as performing arts, dance, music, film and art. To Gellein, the production process is as important as the final result. They explore different methods of performance and filmmaking on set in order to create a safe setting in which to address uncomfortable or vulnerable themes.
At Kunsthall Stavanger, Gellein will present a new immersive installation revolving around their analog short films, sculptural props, and visual artwork.
Anette Gellein (b.1995 in Stavanger) is a multi-media artist working with video, sound, text, images, drawing, performance and textiles. Their work often comes together in immersive installations combining different mediums. They hold a BA from Nordland Art and Film School and an MA from the Glasgow School of Art with a specialization in performance.
