In their role-play workshop, Trojan Horse (Kaisa Karvinen and Tommi Vasko) created a near-future city of Stavanger. The participants sketched the city by writing fictional roles and stories and then dressed up and engaged with the public and within groups as these characters in a live action Role-Play.
We asked ourselves these questions:
What kinds of roles there are in the city?
How can we become aware of tensions and relationships between different characters and roles in the city? What kinds of roles and characters could we imagine if we would see the city from someone else’s perspective?
How can we become more active in taking and writing the roles we have in the city?

Trojan Horse
Trojan Horse is an autonomous educational platform based in Helsinki. Trojan Horse organises summer schools, live action role-plays, workshops and reading circles in the landscapes of architecture, design and art.
Trojan Horse aims to create flexible yet steady structures that support critical discourses over a longer time span while remaining open for cross-pollinations and changes. Trojan Horse encourages designers and architects to do more experimental projects, research-based work and form bolder political statements.
Mobilizing Citizenship (MC)
Mobilizing Citizenship (MC) is an educational project where Norwegian and international artists and designers are invited to work with a small group of young people aged 12-16 at Kunsthall Stavanger during one semester. The overall focus of MC is to investigate how young people can use tools and methods from contemporary art to express themselves and be heard in today's society. MC is not a talent development programme, but rather an investigation into how contemporary art can be a relevant contribution in young people’s lives.
Since its inception in 2018, MC has developed into a practice-based research project. During the period 2022–2024, the project will focus on building more knowledge about how we can create good meetings between contemporary art and young people. As part of this, we are collaborating with institutions and cultural workers from around the world who have expertise in this area. The result of the project will take the form of reflections and documentations, made accessible to artists, curators, cultural workers and institutions who want to create relevant offerings for young people.
