On March 26 the kids in our Art Club will work with dancer and choreographer Hagit Yakira.
The Art Club is for children in 1st to 8th grade. The Art Club introduces children to contemporary art in a fun and accessible way. Here, we explore what contemporary art is, and what kind of experiences and tools we can bring from art into our everyday lives. The children will meet and work with professional artists, and get explore our exhibitions together with our skilled educators. At the end of each semester we organise an exhibition for family and friends.
The theme for the Art Club Spring 2023 semester is care. We can experience care with our family, friends and classmates, even with animals and nature. How do we care for ourselves and others? How do we take care of each other in a group?
Award winning Israeli choreographer Hagit Yakira founded Hagit Yakira Dance Company in 2007 in London, UK and has since gone on to tour the UK, Europe, Scandinavia and Israel. Besides working with professional dancers she leads performance projects for the community and non-professional dancers as well. Hagit moved to Stavanger, Norway in 2019 and after she received her PhD from Trinity Laban/City University, London. These days and alongside her freelance work and her company she is the Pro-Dean for research and innovation at the faculty of performing arts at the university of Stavanger. Hagit's aim is to develop a personal approach, which is based on close collaboration with various artists working within different art forms. Audiences engage with the work because of its empathic nature that draws out the feelings and emotion in the dancers that are identifiable to all.
