Kunsthall Stavanger considers educational programming a crucial part of the contemporary art field, therefore our educational initiatives are at the core of our institutional mission. The kunsthall has a profound and innovative focus on education for kids and youth, offering activities from early childhood up until young adulthood. In our programming, we explore tools and methods used in contemporary art that focus on process rather than object-oriented making.
The intention of our educational programme is to facilitate and engage access to contemporary art to a broad audience. Through collaborations with professional artists, educators and youth workers, we activate contemporary art as a relevant and vital element of everyday life. We strive to empower children, young people and adults to utilize tools and methods from contemporary art to help express themselves and find their voice in society.

Program Overview
Arty Party – for children aged 6–12
Arty Party is the “kids’ day” at the art gallery. We invite an artist to design events where children take over the gallery space. Each event includes a range of activities such as workshops, concerts, guided tours, and a disco.
Art Club – for children in grade 1–8
In the Art Club, participants explore different practices within the field of contemporary art. Through four workshops per semester (one Sunday per month), children meet and work with artists on various projects, which conclude with an exhibition for family and friends. Registration required.
School tours – for school classes
We offer guided tours of our exhibitions for classes at all grade levels. Our experienced art educator guides students through the exhibition and presents selected works, while key themes and ideas are explored.
Baby tours – for parents with babies (0–1.5 years)
Baby tours take place at a calm pace and are specially designed for parents with very young children and babies. Our educator introduces the current exhibition, followed by a relaxed informal gathering in the foyer, where visitors can unwind and meet other parents. Keep an eye on the Events section for the next upcoming baby tour.
Guided tours – for everyone
We offer guided tours in our exhibitions. You can find upcoming tours under Events. We also offer private guided tours of current exhibitions. Contact us at formidling@kunsthallstavanger.no for more information and pricing.
Previous projects and events:
Mobilizing Citizenship – for youth
In Mobilizing Citizenship, a small group of young people met Norwegian and international artists over the course of a semester. The project explores how young people can use tools and methods from contemporary art to express themselves and be heard in today’s society. After the project was completed, we developed and published a toolkit.
School Workshops – from 5th grade primary school to 3rd year in upper secondary school
Each school semester from 2022–2025, we welcomed school classes to workshops based on our exhibitions. In previous workshops, students have created their own news broadcasts and produced dance videos.
